Working with Kylie

When she isn’t touring with Inckap and seeing him reach dizzying TV highs, Kylie can be found in Mushie Heights, working away.

After writing and illustrating Inkcap and the Nethers, Kylie shared in her mushie community that she would love to illustrate a children’s book. In a serendipitous twist of fate, her wish came true when Laura Maclennan chanced upon this declaration and asked Kylie to illustrate her debut children’s book, Don’t Be Silly! featuring Seth and the Rainbow Monsters.

Since creating and unleashing the Rainbow Monsters out into the world, Kylie has also collaborated with Lisa and Mark Cryer on their gorgeous Roundabout Rabbits, with Catherine Green on her whimsical and stunning Have You Ever Wondered? Steven Udale on his debut children’s book about Ed the Egg and his adventures with the Benedict Brothers. Kylie has also illustrated Paula Fowler’s two books about the North East adventures of Wizard Beano & Pals. This story idea came from a commisioned piece of art Kylie created for Paula.

Kylie works closely with both the authors and Alexa Whitten throughout the process, painstakingly hand illustrating every picture, before scanning and emailing them over to Alexa to typeset. With Alexa, Kylie has also produced the covers for each title.

Kylie’s unique, nostalgic and whimsical way of creating each of these characters is undoubtedly helping to bring the stories to life, catapulting them into hearts and homes of readers all over the North East and beyond.
